PMRE Summer 2010 Edition Dear PMRE Colleagues: Summer has arrived here on Long Island after a glorious spring. It’s that time of year again: time to renew your membership in PMRE. Check out the sign-up sheet on page #7. Some of you will also find a VOTE/COPE contribution form inside this issue. We are asking you to sign-up for automatic deduction of at least $1.00 each month. But please just give what you can. We need to keep friends of education in Albany, and your VOTE/COPE donation will help support NYSUT’s efforts. Because of the New York State debt crisis, the coming year will be especially challenging. Since the media and politicians often accuse teachers of being the “bad guys”, our pensions and benefits have been attacked. VOTE/COPE will fight for you. Remember VOTE/COPE and NYSUT have succeeded in the past in improving retirees’ lot. They fought for and won the pension COLA and recently made the health care moratorium permanent. Please do your share by returning the included form. (FYI: If you did not find a form in this issue, you either already have automatic deduction, or your form was hand-delivered via the party.) Have a happy, healthy summer!
Brigid Kinney announced the birth of her first grandchild in April. Her daughter, Krista and husband, Mike, proudly welcomed Angela Brigid. Now we know why Brigid resigned as Secretary for PMRE. She will be busy being Grandma to the new addition to her family. We wish you great happiness in your new role and much thanks for your service to PMRE and your fellow retirees.
