PMREand VIEWS

Jane Conetta announced at the May 12th breakfast meeting

that she would not run again as PMRE Vice President.

Jane has served since her retirement

and also is a delegate for RC#22.

She is cutting back because she has become a “snowbird.”

Spring Edition

YOU’RE INVITED!

The June PMRE (FREE) party has two important functions.

One is to welcome the 2010 new retirees.

The second function is to hold the election of all officers for the coming year.

Of course, it goes without saying that everyone loves the lavish spread

that Genie Weisman always provides… and it’s free!

However, everyone is having such a great time chatting and laughing

with old friends, that people sometimes don’t have time to eat more than a bite.

Come and enjoy.

I’ll see you at the party on Thursday, June 3rd from 3:00-6:00pm

at Genie’s home at 43 Monroe Street in Patchogue!

In solidarity,

Mary

Some “Good News” …

Our own Nicholas Cordone (a 2003 Retiree) was honored at the Dowling College Third Annual Educators of the Year Recognition Dinner in April.  This tribute was paid “to distinguished educators who have made a profound impact on the lives of children – Building Intelligence and Character.”  Congratulations Nick!

The Saxton Middle School will be holding a Retirement Party to honor Susan Capek, a friend and PMCT colleague.  The event will take place on Wednesday, June 9th 4:30-7:30pm at Land’s End in Sayville.  The cost is $65.00 per person, which includes gift, entertainment, buffet dinner, and dessert, along with coffee/tea, beer, wine and soda (Cash bar available).  Contact Kathy Camizzi @ Saxton (#687-6700) if you would like to attend or need additional information.  Also, if you have a funny memory, picture(s) you would like to share of Sue, please let her know.  They will be placed in a memory book that will be presented to Sue.

Thankfully, the PM budget was approved by voters on May 18th!  Many thanks to the following list of PMRE members who worked the PMCT phone bank on the Monday before the vote:

Dotty Denonn                          Linda Schaefer                        Sarah Jordan

Pat Sweeney                             Ken Kramer                Claire Siegel

Mario Shortino                        Tony Segelski              Sue Segelski

The volunteers found that their hour went quickly and that the phone bank was easy to do.  By the way…Mario just turned 75 years young!

Dear PMRE Colleague,

Nearly 250,000 education jobs were saved through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act last year. Now, we need to make sure we keep them.

Call today and urge your senators to co-sponsor the Keep Our Educators Working Act (S. 3206).

Today, with states facing unprecedented revenue shortfalls, we need to make sure funding will continue and educators' jobs won't be cut. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) is sponsoring S. 3206 to help save these jobs.

Call your senators today.

When prompted, enter your telephone number. The system
will dial your enator and call
you when you're connected.

This important legislation will:

  • Provide $23 billion to help school districts avert educator layoffs in the upcoming school year;
  • Make sure that our children's education is not shortchanged by the economic crisis; and
  • Enable districts to continue to implement positive programs to help ensure that all students receive the great education they deserve.

Call your senators today and urge them to support the Keep Our Educators Working Act.

Students need teachers in their classrooms—not in unemployment lines. Budgets are tightening, but let's not shortchange our children's futures.

In unity,

The AFT

P.S. The AFT's Fight for America's Future Tour 2010 continues to draw attention to the ongoing fiscal crisis. Today, AFT President Randi Weingarten is in San Francisco meeting with AFT members and the community. You can track the tour activities on the Fight for America's Future Tour 2010 section of the AFT's website.
